How to make torrents more secure.


To make things easier in Windows you can rename the TAP interface.

  1. Open Control panel
  2. Click on View network status and tasks
  3. Click on change adapter settings
  4. Right-click on the adapter that contains "TAP-Windows Adapter V9" and select rename and enter Mullvad.
  5. Click on Tools
  6. Click on Options
  7. Click on Advanced
  8. Change Network Interface to Mullvad
  9. Click on OK and restart qbittorrent.


Qbittorrent (Linux / MacOs / Windows )

  1. Click on Tools
  2. Click on Options
  3. Click on BitTorrent
  4. Enable (Check) Enable anonymous mode
  5. Disable (Uncheck) Enable DHT
  6. Disable (Uncheck) Enable PeX
  7. Disable (Uncheck) Enable Local peer discovery
  8. Click on Connection
  9. Find Proxy Server and change the type to SOCKS5
  10. Change the Host: to
  11. Change the port: to 1080
  12. Enable (check) Use proxy for peer connections
  13. Enable(check) Disable connections not supported by proxies
  14. Disable (Uncheck) Use PNP / NAT - PMP
  15. Click on Speed
  16. Disable (Uncheck) Apply rate limit to μTP protocol



Q. Why don't you have instructions for other bittorrent clients like µTorrent, Vuze or bitcomet  ?
A. They are not open source, are adware, bundle junkware, or they just don't have as good privacy settings as qBittorrent.
